Market Overview
Vietnam’s apparel industry has seen explosive growth due to strong Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and favorable trade agreements. However, its heavy reliance on imported fabrics and yarns (predominantly from neighboring regions) presents a severe compliance challenge for the EU DPP.
Cross-Border Data Validation
Under the ESPR, the product passport must detail the full origin of materials. For Vietnamese factories, this means not only generating data on their own assembly processes but also forcing foreign suppliers to provide cryptographically secure data regarding yarn spinning and dyeing.
[!IMPORTANT] The inability to source verified Tier 3 data from external cross-border suppliers could result in finished garments being barred from EU entry, regardless of the quality of Tier 1 assembly.
Strategic Pivot
Many large-scale operations in Vietnam are now investing heavily in vertical integration to bring weaving, dyeing, and spinning in-house, thereby reducing the compliance risk associated with external data sourcing.
